An Evening With Friends, by ACJC choir

(attended with Abi)
Back-to-back, (almost) the same seats, I must say, I’m so sorry Yuhan, ACJC wins. Hands down.
Well, don’t get me wrong, HCI wasn’t bad at all! Technically, both were excellent (after all, HCI is well deseving of their Gold with Honours, but there was just something extra AC had to offer that I can’t simply explain.. The way they presented the song that spoke to the audience, in my opinion.. Maybe I’m just biased, who knows? But one thing’s for sure, the Hymns and ‘God-centred’ numbers had much more meaning and truth when AC sang it (most of the songs were such!). Not just because it’s AC but looking at their faces when they sing it.. they speak too! I felt weird that HC ended the night with ‘For The Beauty of the Earth’! Other than AC wanting to look as professional as possible (without: 1. a piano to pitch for every vocal part before every song 2. a conductor’s stand 3. bilingual emcees 4. pop songs), both were good I guess!
The nostalgia…
I had this exact same thoughts watching AC choir this time, last year.. Listening to the admittedly beautiful hymns and tunes that glorify God being sung on stage.. Yet again, I wonder, wow, why wasn’t I part of this for more than just 3 months? Woudn’t it feel so good to be on that esplanade stage. Felt particularly so during the encore number… goes something like.. ‘Christ behind me, Christ beneath me…’ The way their voices and faces delivered it… made me want so much to be a part..
After, met about half my 1st intake classmates, pleasantly surprised!( Took photo… maybe I’ll post it up here when I get it!) Again, I say, I missed the little 3 months I had in AC.. really, I do! Even though the transition for me was kinda ugly and painful!
RJ’s a totally different story altogether.
At the end of the day, I know I’m thankful it was just 3 months, nothing more, cos only now I see the bigger plan God had for me.
All things work for the good of all who love Him! Yes?
God is God
And I am not
I can only see a part
of the picture He’s painting
And I am Man
So I’ll never understand it all
For only God is God
haha mag i agree with you about ac’s sacred pieces(: (i also felt weird about singing ‘for the beauty, since it’s only 1/3 of us and ms lim who understand the meaning). they held their lines very well and were very musical, but i still feel obliged to defend hc. haha. about giving pitch, it’s just ms lim’s style. the conductor’s stand - well, conducting from memory is what makes mrs wilson unique from the rest. it doesn’t make ms lim any less pro. 我们的故事 was a little under-rehearsed, but at least it reached out to the sch population who know nuts about choral music and were just there to support us. and the bilingual emcees - simply put, we’re 华中 what(: anyway, glad you came and thanks for the choc!
